Solid Gold Hell - Sept 13 Kings Arms

Media Release
For immediate release
SOLID GOLD HELL
The Kings Arms, Auckland, September 13th 2013

Cult noise-rock outfit SOLID GOLD HELL to play long-awaited headline show at the Kings Arms, Auckland, on Friday 13th September.

Formed in the wake of New Zealand noise rockers SPUD, Solid Gold Hell was a continuation of that group's lurching sound with more garage punk and less avant sonics. Releasing two albums Swingin' Hot Murder (1994) and The Blood and the Pity (1996), with turgid swing beats and atonal blues that draw comparisons to Jesus Lizard and Australian pub crawlers the Scientists.

Similarly, they take a lot from Captain Beefheart's magic band and filter it through punk and sardonic bar-room jazz, resulting in a drunken mix of punishing noise and startling musicianship.

Solid Gold Hell made their return to the live front as part of Flying Nun's “Nun-vember” series of events back in 2012, following this up supporting Snapper as part of the Arch Hill and Flying Nun Afternoon Grill in April this year. Admitting that “we play so haphazardly”, this is certain to be one of those rare occasions to see one of New Zealand's seminal noise, “southern Gothic” outfits headline a show at the hallowed Kings Arms.

Support for the show comes from 95bFM favourites Las Tetas, who were hand-picked by Unknown Mortal Orchestra to open for them during their three-date tour of New Zealand back in July this year, and industrial-folk band Girls Pissing on Girls Pissing, who are about to make their dreaded debut in Australia having earned plaudits over the ditch for their most recent album/book, “Eeling”
