Crazed Doll-Collector Satanic Spoof Hits the Capital

Pandora Productions presents
DOLLY MIXTURE
Written and performed by Yvette Parsons and Thomas Sainsbury

After two sell out seasons in Auckland, including one as part of the Auckland Fringe 2013, the darkly-comedic duo of Yvette Parsons and Thomas Sainsbury bring their acclaimed horror comedy, Dolly Mixture, to BATS Theatre this October!

When demented doll collector Beverley Beavington advertises for a home stay; Crispin Merriweather fits the bill. He's a virgin, friendless and easily manipulated. Under the glassy stare of a hundred dollies, Beverley elicits Crispin’s assistance to embark on a little satanic ritual…

One of the highlights of Auckland Fringe, Dolly Mixture’s demented, chaotic nature is nothing new for its star, Yvette Parsons. She re-set the benchmark in taste earlier this year with Janeece Gunton – Herstory, alongside her earnest, heart-breaking role in Silent Night, earning her a Chapman Tripp nomination for “Best Actress” and “Most Outstanding Performance” in 2012 . Parsons’ roles in Yeti Trilogy, The House of Bernada Alba and Gas, alongside appearances in Super City and Shortland Street, have established her as an audience favorite.

Thomas Sainsbury’s plays have been performed in New Zealand, Australia, UK, U.S, Greece and France. His plays Loser, The Christmas Monologues and The Mall have been published by PlayPress. In 2011 Tom was nominated for the Playmarket Capital E Outstanding New NZ Play of the Year for his play Joseph and Mahina. He co-wrote the critically acclaimed TV3 comedy Super City and which is currently in its second series.

With a track record for making the audiences’ skin crawl, Dolly Mixture is riddled with moments of utterly black comedy. A mixture of Argento’s Suspiria, the Child’s Play series and Grey Gardens, the show also owes a debt to the 16th century legend of Homunculus, Barbara Cartland and Whatever Happened To Baby Jane.

Don’t come alone…

“If you aren't afraid of doll collectors already, you will be after this. […] a rip roaring ride, and it's jolly good fun” - Theatreview
