NZRL National Competition 2013 - Results MNF Round Three

Auckland, NZ, September 16, 2013 – This Monday night featured the first of a three match Women's Rugby League series played between Counties Manukau and Akarana. In a close game it was Akarana, scoring in the final minute, who got the win 24-22. The second match in the series will be played on Monday September 30 and the third and final game on Monday October 14. All games will be played at Mt Smart Stadium (kick off at 5.45pm).

The second match of the evening, the Pirtek National Premiership top of the table clash between the Counties Manukau Stingrays and the Akarana Falcons was an absorbing game of football. Akarana scored first through their winger Paula Maliepo, then the Stingrays replied with a try to their winger Karyss Adams. Akarana appeared to score next, but the try was disallowed with a player ruled offside. Stingrays hooker Sunia Hala scored next, then after a break at the 28th minute, when referee Daniel Caddy was injured, the Stingrays took the game to the Falcons and it was 26-6 to the Stingrays at half time.

In the second half the Akarana Falcons made the most of their speed and off-loads to score three tries and a penalty and at the 61st minute they had scored 20 points and the game was all locked up at 26-all. With only minutes on the clock the Stingrays made the most of their size and structures to put a hard running Seiloni Moala through on the angle for the final and winning try. Final score 32-26 to the Stingrays.
