500 days till cricket’s ultimate prize returns to NZ

MEDIA RELEASE FROM ICC CRICKET WORLD CUP 2015

2 OCTOBER 2013

500 days till cricket’s ultimate prize returns to New Zealand

Today marks 500 days to the start of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia, which will begin in Christchurch on 14 February 2015 with the opening match between New Zealand and Sri Lanka.

The tournament was officially launched on 30 July and organisers are now gearing up for the release of ticket pricing and sale dates, which will be announced in November.

Head of New Zealand for ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Therese Walsh said: “500 days to go is an important milestone for tournament organisers and fans alike, and I’m sure we’ll see excitement build even further as ticketing information is released next month.”

Seven New Zealand cities will host ICC Cricket World Cup matches: Auckland, Hamilton, Napier, Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch and Dunedin. Between them they will host half of the tournament’s 42 pool matches. Wellington will also host a quarter-final and Auckland a semi-final. Every team will need to play in New Zealand if they are to claim cricket’s ultimate prize.

“This is a once in a generation opportunity for fans and families to experience the magic of the ICC Cricket World Cup. Games are shared evenly around the country and fans can expect to see ticket pricing that makes it easy for kiwis to get among the action,” says Therese Walsh.

In just 103 days New Zealand will also host the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier, which will be played from 13 January to 1 February in 2014 at six venues throughout the country: Mt Maunganui and New Plymouth in the North Island, and Christchurch, Lincoln, Rangiora and Queenstown in the South Island. A total of 34 matches will be played in the tournament and from this the final two qualifiers for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 will be decided.

Full ticketing details will be announced in November, but fans can already secure access to pre-sales for all ICC Cricket World Cup matches, including the semi-finals and final, by registering at www.cricketworldcup.com/register.
