An Exhibition with a Difference

An Exhibition with a Difference

Dunedin (Friday 4 October) - An art exhibition entitled Dual<>Jewel has been installed in the Dunedin City Library’s Teen Space.

The exhibition, by local young artists Toki Wilson and Kelly O’Shea, is a dual exhibition and virtual game and has been installed on one of the computers in the Teen Space. The other part of the exhibition is installed at Blue Oyster Gallery on Dowling Street.

There is a poster on a stand beside the computer explaining the game and how to play. For the duration of both the real and virtual exhibition (1 – 26 October), this P.C. will run the game only and will not have any other applications available.

This game has been designed specifically for teens and to be played specifically in the Teen Space.

The artists say, “This is not a game. It’s a virtual reality, a reflection of the artists’ thoughts and creative processes. It acts as a sort of gateway to the art world (out there in the real world) but perhaps looks very different from the sometimes boring reality. And imagine being in a room full of jelly!”

Young Adults Librarian Su Ikin says, “We have not done anything like this in the Teen Space before and we are very pleased to have been invited by Kelly and Toki to be part of their joint project. Library staff have worked with Toki to ensure that this type of exhibition could work. We hope that the public will take the time to stop by and try out the game or to visit the physical exhibition at Blue Oyster.”
