Still Dancing

MEDIA RELEASE For immediate release 23 October 2013

Still Dancing

This summer Expressions fills Vector Gallery with dancing images. Still Dancing is a series of large scale photographs taken by Stephen A’Court of graduating students of the New Zealand School of Dance. Still Dancing runs 2 November 2013 - 28 January 2014 and coincides with the dance season at Expressions where over 5000 people visit three Dance School performances through the montha of November and December.

The Still Dancing exhibition celebrates 45 years of the New Zealadn School of Dance and is a joint venture between A’Court and the School. The New Zealand School of Dance is well known as the tertiary institution of choice for dancers training full-time towards a career in ballet or contemporary dance. The School has established a strong international profile with many graduates of the School going on to dance with dance companies in New Zealand and internationally.

Each dancer of the graduation class of 2012 was photographed with each demonstrating their own sense of personality and character. Each one is vastly different with the dancers emotion the centre of attention.

A’Court, has worked with dancers from the school for over a decade.  The exhibition represents a close co-operation between dancer and photographer, where the photographer is rewarded by the one perfect instant arising from the dancer’s intense concentration on achieving the perfectly balanced stance. A’Court finds the dedication of the students inspiring.  “As well as their incredible dance technique, it is possible to see glimpses of their varying temperaments and personalities” he says. “Dancers are the most beautiful humans on the planet, and dance is perfect for photography”.
