World Class Hockey Turf opens at ACG Strathallan

World Class Hockey Turf opens at ACG Strathallan

Karaka, 25 October 2013 - ACG Strathallan now has a world-class hockey turf available for use for both the school and the greater community.

“The hockey turf is of an international standard, and is the only turf in the country that meets the new standard set by STI, the suppliers of hockey turfs for the next Olympic and Commonwealth Games. We look forward to hosting regional and national games in addition to the school grade hockey games,” says Principal Robin Kirkham.

The opening of the turf is stage one of a two-stage process. Stage two is building a pavilion that will hold function rooms and changing room facilities. This will be finished before the start of the 2014 season.

Hockey parents and students, both past and present, joined with staff and ACG personnel to celebrate this fantastic new addition to Strathallan’s facilities. Executive Principal Robin Kirkham and Director of Sport Hugo Fourie both acknowledged the tremendous growth of hockey as a sport at Strathallan and the successful season all five hockey teams have had this year.

Of particular note was the Boys First XI team winning the Counties Manukau Secondary School A Grade Championship which was marked by a presentation of the winning trophy to team captain, Ethan Henley, by Grant Litchfield, the President of Counties Manukau Hockey.

To celebrate the opening of the turf there was a presentation match of the current boys and girls team members against the ‘old-boys’ team.
