Wanakafest hits the runway

Wanaka, Friday 25 October, 2013 – Willowridge Wanakafest took off last night when more than 500 people descended upon the local Mitre 10 for the sell-out Passion for Fashion catwalk event.

The fashion show is a chance for local businesses to get creative and put together unique designer outfits, with this year’s theme based on the elements earth, wind and fire.

“We had a great turn out last night and all of the designs were amazing! The feedback has been wonderful,” said show director and former international model Carrie Berkey. “It’s definitely a who’s who of Wanaka and an event not to be missed in this town.”

The event was a local community effort with businesses such as designer store 47 Frocks, optometrist Eyes on Ardmore, board store Base and fashion store Sassy Pants all designing and showing a range.

“Wanaka locals are usually pretty casual, but last night was definitely the night for people to come out in all their finery,” Willowridge Wanakafest event manager Laurel Morrison said. “The dress code for attendees was red hot and people really got into it, which was fantastic to see – what a way to kick off the festival!”

Willowridge Wanakafest continues with the Wanaka Business Collective Street Parade through Ardmore Street from 5:30pm today and the Lake Wanaka Wine and Food Festival across Saturday and Sunday at Pembroke Park.

Live music, wine, food, entertainment and family activities will scatter the weekend to ensure there is something for everyone. Visit wanakafest.co.nz for more info.
