Razors at the Ready with Three Days to Mo!
Kiwi Mo Bros are sharpening their razors for their first and final shave down this Friday, 1 Movember, as the month of moustacherie begins.
New Zealand Movember country manager Robert Dunne says guys should be prepping their skin, readying their shaving weapon of choice and encouraging friends and family to get involved.
“Thousands of men and women from around the country have already registered to support the campaign, but when it comes to moustaches in Movember, the more mos that join the better,” says Dunne.
The Movember movement began in 2003 with a few Aussie guys growing moustaches during the month of November for fun, and since then has grown to a global foundation researching and raising awareness for men’s health in over 21 countries.
New Zealand joined the hairy effort in 2006 and last year raised $1.57 million out of a global $176 million. An impressive 15,052 people took part in New Zealand alone.
“This year we’re hoping for a record 18,000 registrations,” says Dunne.
Alongside all the Mo Bros some key ambassadors are joining the hairy initiative this year. Sports presenter Martin Tasker will be shaving his iconic mo for the first time in 41 years. All round good guy Josh Kronfeld will be growing, as will be actor Will Hall and Auckland’s Man of Movember and huge supporter Carl Ewen.
On the first of Movember, all Mo Bros must be clean shaven and ready to grow and groom for the month, in doing so creating a catalyst to start hundreds of conversations around men’s health.
In 2013 the campaign is going back to its roots, rallying the Generation Mo troops to fight the good fight through growing, or supporting the growth of a moustache.
“We want to take Movember to the streets, getting as many people on the ground to grow moustaches to become the walking, talking billboards for men’s health in this country,” says Dunne.
Funds raised by Mo Bros and Mo Sistas in New Zealand go toward The Cancer Society and Mental Health Foundation, funding programmes to improve the men’s health landscape in New Zealand.
Mo Bros and Sistas can register as individuals or teams at www.movember.com where they create their own Mo Space page, an easy place for others to donate and show their support.
