Football fever provides extra kick to New Zealand Cup and Show Week

Yellow fever is hitting Christchurch – giving residents the perfect opportunity to prove bums on seats will bring more sporting treats.

Wellington Phoenix – New Zealand’s only professional football team – along with their travelling fan base Yellow Fever, will provide a sporting start to New Zealand Cup and Show Week with a game against Perth Glory on Saturday 9 November.

Vbase, the Christchurch City Council governed event and conference facility management company, is hoping for a big crowd turnout for the round five match of the 2013/14 Hyundai A-League season at AMI Stadium.

Vbase General Manager Russell Kenny said it was a great opportunity to demonstrate to all sporting codes considering Christchurch as a venue, that they would have the support of the local community.

“Vbase has listened to the people of Christchurch who keep asking for a wider range of sporting events in the city. After a three year hiatus the A-League has returned to our local stadium so we urge the community to come along and show their support for the Wellington Phoenix.”

Wellington Phoenix General Manager David Dome agreed that community support was a vital factor.

“We are really looking forward to our trip south this season. When we played at AMI Stadium in the 2009/2010 season we had nearly 20,000 fans at the match so we know there is great local support for the club and football.

We hope that Cantabrians come out once again this year to show their support of not only the Wellington Phoenix, but also of Vbase and their partners in attracting quality sporting events like this to Christchurch.”

Fans are being urged to get in quick to take advantage of the early bird discount ticket rates of $25 for adults and $10 for children. Tickets are available now from Ticketek outlets or online at www.ticketek.co.nz

“Pre-purchasing tickets will also prevent queuing with the walk up crowd on game day and give you more time to enjoy the pre-match build-up,” added Mr Kenny.

Footy fans will have plenty to look forward to with loads of action both on and off the field.

Yellow Fever will kick start the party mood at 3.30pm with their traditional march along Lincoln Road to AMI Stadium.

Pre-match action will see Hawkins staff take on representatives from SCIRT (Stronger Christchurch Infrastructure Rebuild Team) in some friendly pitch rivalry. Touted as the” Rebuild Raiser”, both sides are busy training for the inaugural match.

For adult patrons, the fun continues off-pitch in the Stoneleigh Hospitality Zone. Fans over 18 years of age can enjoy live entertainment while relaxing in the purpose-built 40 foot container bar.
