TOP THREE FINALISTS
With the bright lights of Art in the Dark set to illuminate Ponsonby’s Western Park from this Thursday (November 7th), three emerging New Zealand designers will be vying for the general public’s vote to earn the right to be called the 2013 University Design Comp winner.
The competition, sponsored by Phillips and AUT University, is now in its second year and has become a highly anticipated event amongst design students in New Zealand. Creating edgy, imaginative designs entrants are competing for a chance to exhibit alongside 40 other works from some of the most innovative designers from New Zealand and overseas.
This year’s final three are:

Once the entries were received, an online vote through Facebook was run to see what up-and-coming designer would receive the The People’s Choice award; granting them a budget instantly to realise their proposal. Following The People’s Choice competition, a further two designs were then selected by a panel of Art in the Dark judges participate in the festival.
The third and final part of this competition comes down to the public. During the festival those attending will be asked to vote for their favourite installation from the line-up. The designer with the most votes will win a Philips Prize pack to the value of $1000 and be named the 2013 University Design Comp winner.
