Coastguard Boating Education
launches Legal and Safe Ship Management course
Coastguard Boating Education has introduced this new course for those intending to own or operate small commercial craft.
CBE General Manager Neil Murray says that “the Legal and Safe Ship Management course is the ideal way to prepare people with the knowledge required for the MNZ Local Launch Operator examination”.
With Maritime New Zealand’s imminent implementation of SeaCert (anticipated to be April 1st 2014) a new suite of commercial qualifications will come in to effect. Skipper Restricted Limits will replace the current LLO and ILM etc.
There is still opportunity to obtain an LLO prior to the introduction of the new licenses. If you hold one of these certificates or obtain an LLO prior to 2014, you can continue to operate in the same capacity as you currently do for the next five years or until your certificate expires – whichever is sooner.
MNZ has reviewed the previously published transitional arrangements so that when the new rules come into effect in early 2014, all seafarers who want to keep using their qualifications will either have their tickets confirmed, or transition to new qualifications. For full details visit www.maritimenz.govt.nz.
Holders of current licenses will be able to apply for the most appropriate certificate that reflects their experience, training and seagoing service as soon as the new rules comes into effect.
