TAB to refund bets if All Whites create history
To celebrate the biggest game of football ever played in New Zealand, the TAB announces that it will refund all losing head-to-head bets on Mexico to win on the night if the All Whites qualify for the World Cup in Wellington on Wednesday night. In addition, if the All Whites win on the night but fail to qualify, the TAB will refund all losing exact score bets on the game.
The offer means Kiwi fans can bet with their heads but cheer-on New Zealand wholeheartedly, because if the All Whites can pull off what would surely go down as the greatest comeback in New Zealand sporting history, it won’t cost them in their wallet.
TAB Football Bookie Gary Pearn said, “Everyone knows it’s a massive mountain for the boys to climb, but we never use the word impossible. Look what just happened in the America’s Cup – how many people thought Oracle had any chance when Team NZ lost after leading 8-1 in a first-to-nine series.
“There are plenty of international examples of staggering comebacks too.”
In the Headingly Ashes Test in 1981 the odds were 500-1 against England halfway through England's second innings. Then Ian Botham hit 149 not out and Bob Willis took eight for 43 to snatch an extraordinary win.
“What is certain is that this is the biggest game of football that has ever been held in New Zealand and it’s going to be a fantastic occasion at a sold out Westpac Stadium.
“We fully expect the All Whites to play with attacking intent so whatever happens, it should be an entertaining game.
“The TAB is delighted to be able to add to the excitement by offering refunds to our customers who want to bet with their heads but cheer for the All Whites with all their hearts, said Mr Pearn.
