Laneway Sideshow Wgtn - Earl Sweatshirt, Danny Brown

Laneway Festival Presents Earl Sweatshirt, Danny Brown and Run the Jewels In Wellington

St Jerome’s Laneway Festival are excited to announce that EARL SWEATSHIRT, DANNY BROWN and RUN THE JEWELS will be making their way down to Wellington for the king of all sideshows. With enough hype to heat up an Airbus A320, this mighty fine crew are arguably some of the hottest rappers to storm the streets this year.

Over the past four years, Laneway Festival has become Auckland’s favourite boutique summer festival, bringing an eclectic programme of emerging artists from around the world to an urban environment.

As the second Laneway sideshow to hit New Zealand, the ears of Wellington are in for an incredible injection of hip hop to kick off 2014.

Each year, Laneway Festival throws down an absolutely huge show and this supreme blend of rappers will make your summer unforgettable.

EARL SWEATSHIRT

As the youngest of the Old Future collective, EARL SWEATSHIRT is by far the most notorious and talented of the bunch. Earmarked as a hip hop genius from the age of 16, his 2010 debut mixtape Earl left fans and critics hanging on for more. He dropped off the scene for a brief stint in a Samoan therapeutic retreat school before returning with LP Doris. Challenging the status quo with brutal honesty, Earl Sweatshirt is a master of words. The release was praised for its sophisticated, varied and unexpected palette. He’s unstoppable and unmissable.

DANNY BROWN

Detroit native DANNY BROWN will bend you over backwards with a feast of richly textured, distinctly original hip-hop. In 2011 the Motor City MC teamed up with Fool's Gold Records and released XXX, a tour de force concept record (and Spin’s ‘Rap Album Of The Year’)
exploring hedonism and growing up in Detroit. Earlier this year, the highly-anticipated LP Old was released with Pitchfork describing it as, “the best and most resonant album of Brown's career”. Expect profanity and truth; you’ll catch Danny Brown top of his game at this show.

RUN THE JEWELS (EL-P & KILLER MIKE)

Laneway Festival has been obsessed with the powerhouse rap duo of EL-P and Killer Mike for quite some time. Together they are RUN THE JEWELS. Individually, the artists have put out what some have called "the best hip hop albums to come out in a long time", and the duo’s collaborative history has been fruitful -- with EL-P producing Killer Mike’s 2012 R.A.P Music and Killer Mike guesting up on EL-P’s Cancer for Cure. Run The Jewels released their self titled LP through Fools Gold last June and we're still mad on it.

Aucklanders, don’t fret, the same team are performing at Laneway Festival in Auckland, which you can check out over here.

Don’t miss a beat; tickets to this Laneway Wellington sideshow are set to run out faster than the quickest kid in class.
