Wellington Community Events, 2013-14 Summer

Karori Fair Day, Saturday 7 December 2013

The Karori Fair Day is held annually in the beautifully landscaped grounds of the Karori Community Centre, from Karori Rd through to Beauchamp St. It runs from 10am until 3pm.

A feature of this year’s event will be the Kids’ Activities area, where pre-schoolers can enjoy some free participatory activities on the lovely picnic lawn. Primary school children can also enter the “Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars” talent contest and schools fundraiser; see www.twinkletwinkle.org.nz.

Locals are warmly invited to participate in any ways you choose: performers, stallholders, information stalls, fundraisers, membership drives, just attend and enjoy; or get in touch with your ideas.

The craft stalls at Karori Fair Day are of a high standard, featuring genuine hand-made and local crafts; plus food stalls, a music performance stage, and kids’ activities and kids’ rides areas.

Food stalls are regulated for hygiene, and craft stalls for quality; please see the craft and food stall applications for all prices and details. Terms and Conditions apply to all stalls.

This event is usually held on the second Saturday in December, and on the same weekend as the Khandallah Village Fair; however, as the second Saturday and the Second Sunday in December fall on different weekends in 2013, Karori Fair Day has been moved to the first Saturday in December, Saturday 7 December.

Birdman Wellington, Monday 20 January 2014

Birdman Wellington has been going from strength to strength since starting only a few years ago, as Wellingtonians compete to be the silliest flyer into our beautiful harbour!

Held on Wellington Anniversary Day, and held in Wellington’s outdoor jewel, the Waterfront from Frank Kitts Park to Te Papa Promenade (wharf), when the weather is good this cannot be beaten for a free and fun family day out. The event starts at 11am with a kids’ jump from the sea-level platform by the lagoon entrance, and moves into the afternoon with the adult and corporate competition sections, with entrants jumping from a specially constructed platform on Taranaki St Wharf.

A BMX flip ramp into the water adds to the spectacular fun. Bands and performers entertain on three stages between 11am-5pm, a kids’ rides and activities area is situated on the upper level of Frank Kitts Park, and stallholders provide quality crafts on Te Papa Promenade, a general market in Frank Kitts Park, and a wide variety of food stalls throughout the event. It’s a very full day for all ages!
