Fashion goes to extremes for a 10 day celebration in Auckland’s Heart of the City
A show stopping 125m-long catwalk down the middle of Queen Street and a launch event at a breathtaking height of 192m have the third annual ‘10 Days of Fashion in the City’, brought to you by Resene, set to be a thrilling festival of fashion celebrations in Auckland’s central city.
From ‘The Height of Fashion’ launch event at The Sugar Club, two days of fashion shows in Britomart, a pop-up NZ Fashion Museum exhibition, free fashion movies, an exclusive outdoor fashion show from Workshop and a George FM-hosted wrap party, Auckland’s central city is set to live up to its reputation as the country’s premier fashion destination.
Funded and managed by Heart of the City and supported by partnerships with Resene, Viva, George FM and Schwarzkopf, ‘10 Days of Fashion in the City’ offers a selection of impressive shows, parties and celebrations, and provides shoppers an opportunity to take advantage of more than 100 in-store offers at participating retailers.
A highlight event that’s set to rewrite the record books will be New Zealand’s Longest Catwalk presented by Schwarzkopf, a 125m-long catwalk show that will take the place of a section of Queen Street’s bustling traffic for an afternoon.
Heart of the City Events & Sponsorship Manager, Jane Stewart, says the catwalk, the longest on record in NZ, celebrates the shopping mecca that the Golden Mile is most famous for with the most extreme fashion event Heart of the City has ever undertaken.
“40 models will parade 80 in-season outfits styled by Kylie Cooke (NZ’s Top Model and X-Factor) from the city’s most coveted boutiques and fashion retailers including the likes of Huffer, Coach, Smith & Caughey’s, Max, Moochi, Barkers, Glassons and many more, right down the middle of the country’s most famous street,”
The free catwalk event, hosted by Shannon Ryan, will take place between Shortland Street and Wyndham Street.
Before the Queen Street catwalk takes the spotlight, the ‘10 Days of Fashion in the City’ will kick off in high style with a luncheon in the sky. The exclusive event at The Sugar Club by Peter Gordon at the top of the Sky Tower will see guests meet designers including Trelise Cooper, Adrian Hailwood, Yvonne Bennetti and Kathryn Wilson as well as seeing their designs on show.
The next day sees the return of the Britomart Fashion Sessions, a two-day event featuring six runway shows from 12 New Zealand and international designers showcasing their Autumn/Winter 2014 collections. The shows will take place in Britomart’s Atrium on Takutai shopping gallery and will celebrate some of the precinct’s favourite labels, including Trelise Cooper, WORLD, Juliette Hogan, Federation and more.
Fashion takes a less traditional form than the usual catwalk shows for ‘Hello, We Are The New Zealand Fashion Museum’ a free exhibition featuring four unique fashion heritage stories at Silo Park in Wynyard Quarter.
If you just want to sit back, relax and put your feet up, you can catch one of four free fashion themed movies at venues around the city. Valentino: The Last Emperor, The September Issue, Bill Cunningham: New York and Annie Hall will inspire viewers with their different takes on fashion.
“We are really thrilled at the selection of events and offers from our central city fashion community, we’ve worked really hard with our partners to ensure there truly is something for everyone this year,”
“And if you’ve still got some gas left in the tank, we’ll be celebrating the end of our 10-day extravaganza with one hell of a party hosted by George FM at Britomart Country Club.” concludes Stewart.
With goodie bags for the first 50 guests and free entertainment with Aroha from George FM spinning sweet tunes, the party promises a great wrap-up for ‘10 Days of Fashion in the City’.
