String Bean Puppets: The Mermaid’s Song

Sunday 2 March at 2 & 3pm

Museum of Wellington City & Sea

A quirky story performed by Wellington puppets takes place on Children’s Day at the Museum of Wellington City & Sea. The String Bean Puppets perform the curious and captivating tale of The Mermaid’s Song on Sunday 2 March at 2 & 3pm, followed by a special puppet making session after the 3pm show.

The show sets sail when Bill embarks on a magical and musical adventure that spills out of his well-travelled suitcase. His fishing trip takes an unexpected turn when he’s ensnared by a mermaid named Serena.

Local Wellingtonian Anna Baily is the puppet master of the charming puppets Bill and Serena. Returning to New Zealand after performing in Europe and Asia, Anna treats her local Capital to an original story set in the sea that’s interactive for the whole family.

Anna says, “The Mermaid’s Song is very special to me. It allows the whole family interact and take part in the adventure. I’m excited to perform it on the maritime floor of the Museum as it is visually and interactively stimulating and compliments the setting of the show. ”

Learning and Programmes Manager of the Museum of Wellington City & Sea Rachel
Ingram says, “We’re thrilled to be working with puppets Bill and Serena to tell a fun and whimsical tale. It’s important to the Museum to host and facilitate interesting Wellington events for our community.”

Celebrate this children’s day at the Museum with Bill and Serena and find out
why Bill is so intrigued by the mysterious mermaid.
