Motorsport New Zealand Proud of Paddon’s Achievement

Motorsport New Zealand takes great pride in congratulating Hayden Paddon on his unprecedented opportunity to compete on the highest stage in international rallying.

Confirmation of Paddon’s entry in seven rounds of the 2014 WRC in a full-spec WRC car elevates him to the level of competitive motorsport attained by very few New Zealanders.

“This is a very proud day for our organisation and New Zealand sport in general,” said Motorsport New Zealand president Shayne Harris. “The WRC is the pinnacle to which many rally drivers, from all over the world, aspire and only a handful of the very best get a shot.

“Hayden has worked incredibly hard both on his driving and to create an all-round package that can integrate and add value to a WRC team. He’s now reaping the benefits of that and we look forward to watching him progress toward his ultimate goal of being world champion,” he said.

Paddon was a graduate of the Motorsport NZ Elite Drivers Academy in 2006, and it is hoped his achievement will inspire further young drivers to chase their dreams.

“We’re really delighted that what the Academy set out to achieve has come to fruition,” said Mr Harris. “Its goal is to help prepare young drivers for professional motorsport careers; Hayden has exceeded that and now has an opportunity to challenge the best drivers in the world and to achieve his goal. Regardless, he will inspire his fellow graduates and aspiring young racers to realise the dream to compete in top-level motorsport is possible with focus, perseverance and hard work.”

In contesting a round of the WRC in a full-spec WRC car in 2013, Paddon joined a small group of elite motor racers who’ve competed at the world’s highest level in their discipline including Bruce McLaren, Howden Ganley, Denny Hulme, Chris Amon and Scott Dixon.
