PIC Triumph in Super Club Invitational Tournament

PIC Triumph in Super Club Invitational Tournament

18 March 2014

Wellington’s PIC took out the inaugural Netball Central Zone Super Club Invitational Tournament, which took place on Saturday at the B & M Centre, Arena Manawatu, in Palmerston North. The competition between two leading clubs from the Hawke's Bay, Horizons, Taranaki and Wellington areas was fierce, with some excellent netball on display, particular for so early in the club calendar.

The PIC team, which included former Haier Pulse players Te Amo Amaru-Tibble and Daya Wiffen, and featured Silver Ferns coach Waimarama Taumaunu, beat Tysons from Taranaki 44-27 in the final.

Netball Central Zone Community Netball Manager, Liz Page, was delighted with the new event. “This tournament was a development opportunity for leading players, umpires and technical officials and proved to be an extremely useful exercise for all those involved,” she explained.

“The event was a great opportunity to support our centres in showcasing the very best of netball from across our Zone. We will certainly look to make this an annual event and a permanent fixture in the Netball Central Zone calendar.”

The final standings were as follows:

1st: PIC, Wellington
2nd: Rampage Tysons Premier, Taranaki
3rd: Manukura, Horizons
4th: Upper Hutt Maidstone United, Wellington
5th: Massey University, Horizons
6th: Plus Rehab HHSOG Huias, Hawke’s Bay
7th: Vet Services Central Netball, Hawke’s Bay
8th: Raukura, Taranaki
