Connetics to Sponsor Canterbury Junior and Youth Football

18 March 2014

Mainland Football Announces Long Term Sponsor of Canterbury Junior and Youth Competition

Mainland Football is proud to announce that Connetics Ltd, one of New Zealand’s leading electrical infrastructure contracting companies, has committed to a three-year partnership with the Canterbury junior and youth football competition commencing this season.

Connetics, a Christchurch-based company, has the naming rights to the Canterbury junior and youth competition until the completion of the 2016 season. The 2014 season kicks off on Saturday 5 April.

Mainland Football’s CEO, Michael Coggan, says the future development of the sport lies in raising the specific skills and teamwork of young footballers in the community and securing the right sponsorship partner is crucial to delivering this.

“The partnership with Connetics provides critical support for junior football programmes that will have a long-lasting effect on junior football in Canterbury,” says Mr Coggan.

Chief Executive of Connetics, Jono Brent, is thrilled the company is able to support the Canterbury junior and youth football competition.

“Our business is all about ensuring that the power is on 24/7. It’s great to be able to support the community in a new way”, says Mr Brent.

“Connetics’ staff work day and night with the motivation to keep things working as normal. The sponsorship is a wonderful opportunity to help keep young people in our community playing a sport they love and support Mainland Football’s goal to boost numbers following a tough few years post earthquake”

The number of youth participating in football in Canterbury decreased noticeably following the 2011 earthquake – a reflection of the changed circumstances of many within the community and the number of families with school aged children who left Christchurch. This season, early indications are that playing numbers will return to pre-earthquake levels, and with the FIFA U-20 2015 World Cup semi-final scheduled to play in Christchurch, participant numbers are expected to increase dramatically in the coming years.

With 22 clubs and 7,000 Canterbury youth between the ages of 8 and 18 actively participating in football, the Canterbury junior and youth competition is the largest in the South Island and spans Ashburton through to Amberley.

About Connetics
Connetics’ core business is the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground lines and associated equipment provided for the delivery of utility and infrastructure services.

While based in Canterbury, their operations extend to the upper central and lower areas of the North Island and the upper, western and southern parts of the South Island, with depots in Wellington and Palmerston North.

Connetics is comprised of three complimentary business units - Contracting Services, Supply + Logistics, and Design + Engineering. Each business unit is managed and operated as an independent entity, allowing for a specific focus on our client’s requirements, demonstrable separation where required, and the ability to maintain strong cross functional links between the units.

Their clients include utility network operators, local bodies, industrial and commercial giants, and large-scale property developers; including Orion, Powerco, Wellington Electricity, Mainpower, Christchurch International Airport and Lyttelton Port of Christchurch.

Connetics provides lighting for several sports fields in Canterbury and has previously powered up ASB Football Park.
