Ed Sheeran Returns to NZ in 2015
ED SHEERAN ANNOUNCES BIGGEST TOUR OF AUSTRALIA + NEW ZEALAND TO DATE!
Frontier Touring are delighted to confirm that Ed Sheeran will be returning to our shores on his biggest tour to date – performing in arenas across Australia and New Zealand in March and April 2015!
Sheeran will be the first musician in twenty years to undertake a headline national arena tour completely solo. Accompanied on stage by only a loop pedal and his trusty acoustic guitar, his ability to fill even the biggest of rooms is testament to his unique talent and appeal as a live performer.
Allowing all fans equal opportunity to score the best seats in the house, tickets to Sheeran’s entire tour will be available for $99 (+ fees). No bells and whistles needed, Sheeran lets his soulful sounds do the talking.
Head of Frontier Touring Michael Gudinski said “Ed wanted to ensure that his shows were accessible to all of his fans. It’s incredibly rare these days to have all tickets at one price in arena venues but Ed wanted to make it happen.”
“I applaud that Ed wants to look after his fans. He remembers lining up as a kid to get good tickets and believes that any fan should have the chance to get the best seats, not just the ones with the most money. I wish more artists would take this initiative!”
A relentless work ethic combined with his dedicated fanbase have seen the 23-year-old Brit go from local pubs to sold-out arenas across the globe in just four short years, selling millions of records along the way.
This will be Sheeran’s fourth visit to our fine countries in as many years. All six shows on his first headline tour in 2012 sold out immediately after going on sale and his return visit in 2013 received a similar reaction with additional shows added rapidly to meet demand.
The travelling troubadour was last in Australia earlier this year where he performed six intimate shows in two days across Melbourne and Sydney to celebrate the release of his sophomore album x (pronounced ‘multiply’, out now through Warner Music).
x, featuring lead single ‘Sing’ and its biting follow up tune ‘Don’t’, subtly pushes the boundaries of Sheeran’s Grammy-nominated debut album + (pronounced ‘plus’) and is the work of a musician who was raised on a diet of rock, folk, hip hop and R&B in equal doses.
Writing for x began three years ago, before debut album + was even released. With the help of co-producer Rick Rubin, hundreds of songs were cut down to twelve tracks that effortlessly flow between different musical styles.
Sheeran called on the likes of hip hop trailblazer Pharrell Williams, Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid, and Foy Vance to collaborate on the album and co-producer credits include Benny Blanco (Maroon 5, Katy Perry) alongside Rick Rubin.
‘…melodies flow, rhythms groove, choruses erupt and lyrics jab you with surprises’ – The Telegraph
‘He’s taken chances and won again’ – Q Magazine
The release became a global smash in its first week, debuting at #1 in twelve countries including Australia and New Zealand and reaching the top five in eleven others.
The lead up to x’s release saw Sheeran do what he does best – take his trusty guitar and loop pedal to stages across Europe and the UK (including a set at Glastonbury), Canada and the United States where he sold out three shows at New York’s Madison Square Garden almost instantly. ‘It's not often the upper deck can hear a performer singing without a microphone before a near-capacity crowd at Madison Square Garden. But such is the wonder of Ed Sheeran.’ – Billboard
‘Ed Sheeran's passion at Philly's Wells Fargo Center is what's missing from most music today’ – The Morning Call
Whether playing pubs or arenas, Sheeran has been a completely solo touring act for his entire career. For almost two hours, he captures the attention of his audience with not much more than his acoustic guitar and the layers of sound built from foot stomps, guitar strums and perfect harmonies.
With the triple talent of intuitive songwriting, infectious charisma and hip hop flow, it’s no surprise that Ed Sheeran’s shows have a penchant for selling out almost immediately after going on sale. Be quick to get your tickets to this one-man acoustic-guitar toting band when they go on sale on Thursday 2 October from 10am local time (for all Australian shows) and 12noon local time (for all New Zealand shows).
