RNZRSA Send Soles to NZCF
The Royal New Zealand Returned and Services Association (RNZRSA) presented the New Zealand Cadet Forces (NZCF) with 250 pairs of high quality shoes in Wellington today in support of youth development.
The shoes are black dress shoes which will be used by cadets throughout New Zealand when wearing uniform. Cadets are not issued with uniform shoes so many have to wear their school shoes or sneakers.
“Currently each cadet unit fundraises to purchase boots and shoes so this donation will help those who have difficulty raising the funds,” said Commander (CDR) Glen Stokes, Commandant NZCF.
“The shoes will also give the cadets a sense of pride whilst in uniform and allow the organisation to maintain its professional image,” he said.
RNZRSA is a major supporter of NZCF and proactively supports youth development, with a youth association programme. Many RSAs around the country give direct support to their community cadet units, including youth membership.
“With the support of the RNZRSA, cadets learn the importance of how New Zealand has evolved through the sacrifices of those who have gone before them, which engenders the core values of respect and loyalty,” said CDR Stokes.
On Sunday 9 November NZCF will be conducting a national coordinated parade to celebrate 150 years of remembrance, where every unit in the country will parade in their community.
“It is at this sort of event that the dress shoes are most valuable as cadets will be parading in the public eye and in front of their families,” he said.
