Gays, Lesbians and Coal Miners, Pre-Screening of PRIDE
The Auckland Women’s Centre is hosting a
pre-screening of the film PRIDE at the
Capitol Cinema,
12 October.
PRIDE is a comedic adaptation of the true story of a group of LGBT activists raising funds for small town Welsh families affected by the U.K Miner Strikes of 1984. Initial tensions between the groups are overcome as they collaborate to support struggling families and fight discrimination.
This is the first chance for New Zealanders to experience what is becoming a highly talked about film in the blogosphere, having premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
Only released in September 2014, the film has already received outstanding reviews.
According to The Guardian, PRIDE has “spine tingling charm by the bucket-load.”
Rolling Stone and Vanity Fair both praised the film’s ability to entertain and portray the story of the two communities.
This event is part of the Auckland Women’s Centre’s work to support the well being and empowerment of women.
Tickets cost $20 for admission or $25 for admission plus wine or ice cream.
Doors open at 7pm and the film begins at 7:30pm.
To purchase tickets call 376 3227 x 0, email info@womenz.org.nz or purchase direct from the centre. Tickets will also be available from The Women’s Bookshop at 105 Ponsonby Road (cash only).
