Five Top Chefs Don Their Aprons for 2014 Gastrofest
Raising funds to fight gastro cancers
Five of Auckland’s top chefs will be donning their aprons in November to help raise money to fight gastro cancers in New Zealand.
They will be showcasing their impressive culinary skills on Thursday 6 November at Gastrofest, the second annual fund-raising event for the Gastro-Intestinal Cancer Institute of New Zealand (GICI)
The mouth-watering four course menu will be created by Geoff Scott (Vinnies), Gavin Doyle (Ortolana), Jason van Dorsten (Café Hanoi), Jess Daniell (Jess’ Underground Kitchen), and Brian Campbell (Milse).
Each course will be expertly paired with wine and craft beer while TV star Carly Flynn will MC the evening.
“This is not your typical charity dinner. It’s a decadent and interactive dining experience which will help advance a very good cause,” says GICI chair Grant Baker.
GICI supports research to improve outcomes for patients with GI cancers, which are New Zealand’s most commonly diagnosed and include cancer of the bowel, pancreas, liver, stomach, gallbladder, and oesophagus. Nearly 4,000 Kiwis are diagnosed each year.
“This year’s event is especially poignant for us as our founder and former chair Paul Hargreaves - a cancer survivor himself – passed away after a stroke in August,” says Baker.
“Without Paul, GICI wouldn’t exist and we will be toasting him on the night with a surprise food combo and toast.”
As well as a fabulous meal, Gastrofest guests will be able to bid on an exciting range of auction items, including a Ferrari surprise, a large station visit complete with gourmet country lunch, pig hunting with the best and much more.
