Death By Chocolate! A Tremains Art Deco Weekend event
Napier’s local funeral home is going all Deco next February hosting a special event within the Tremains Art Deco Weekend. This fantastic new event sold out within the first two days of tickets going on sale!
Titled “Death by Chocolate” this is one of the many new events introduced into the newly released programme.
Dunstall’s Funeral Services is going to empty out its parlour for an event at which guests will be served “death by chocolate” treats made from the local chocolate producer, Silky Oak Chocolate Company. This event follows on from the vintage car parade within which 12 vintage hearses will feature!
This event is just one of 25 new events in the 2015 Art Deco Weekend programme, which has been released to Art Deco Trust members on 1st October and to the general public on 8th October.
The Tremains Art Deco Weekend is an annual event held on the third weekend of February.
Art Deco Trust General Manager, Sally Jackson reported “It is New Zealand’s only 1930s Festival and nowhere else in the world can you celebrate the Art Deco heritage quite like you can in Napier!”
The Weekend event is a celebration of the beautiful Art Deco buildings, the era of the 20s and 30s, the courageous rebirth of the city after the tragic 1931 Hawke’s Bay earthquake, and most importantly the spirit of the people who worked so tirelessly in its reconstruction.
The event remembers and rejoices in the Art Deco fashion, music, vintage cars, planes and stream trains, dance and charm. There are over 200 events, 400 vintage cars and it attracts over 40,000 visitors to Napier.
Highlights include Beach Banquets, Vintage Car Parades, Depression Dinners, Gatsby style picnics and numerous aerial displays.
Other new additions to the programme includes the stunning Duesenberg Model J vehicle, attending the event from the Warbirds and Wheels Collection in Wanaka. This vintage vehicle was once owned by the highest paid actress of the 30s, Carole Lombard, the wife of Clark Gable.
Other new events include high tea events hosted by founding members of the global tea brand Dilmah, a celebrity cricket match at Clifton, a special steam train event serving a lunch featuring Hawke’s Bay food and wine, a trivia quiz night hosted by Shane Cortese, a pamper package for the ladies and several new themed dining options across the city.
Sally Jackson says “The programme this year has grown significantly on last year and features a large range of options for everyone” She added “We are really proud of the way the event has grown over the past five years and so many thousands of people come from right across the world to and celebrate Napier’s exceptional special character at this unique event.”
Tremains Art Deco Weekend 2015 runs from 18 to 22 February.
