NZTRIO: LOFT SERIES 2014 – Transfigured Night

Beloved by both classical and contemporary audiences across both New Zealand and around the world, the ever popular NZTrio is set to deliver a passionate and romantic end of series concert in Loft @ Q Theatre on the 2nd of November with a third signature programme.

After wowing audiences in Denmark at the Aarhus Festival and Copenhagen, NZTrio relish being on home ground again to continue their premiere performances of new works from Auckland composers. The series also invites audiences on an exploration of the timeless works of Beethoven’s Opus 1 trios, giving a burst of youthful energy to the start of each evening, with November 2nd being no exception.

Transfigured Night will also present the Auckland premiere of … when expectation ends by Auckland composer Leonie Holmes followed by American John Zorn’s anguished Amour Fou which narrates the universal nature of human love, from its flirtatious inception to the madness of obsession. The evening will end in poignant affection with Arnold Schoenberg’s passionate and emotional Verklarte Nacht a.k.aTransfigured Night - crafted especially for a trio arrangement.
