Kiwis Back Kiwis for Kiwi

Kiwis Back Kiwis for Kiwi

With 27 kiwis dying every week, some of New Zealand’s rugby league stars are finding time in their busy Four Nations schedule to rally behind our national icon.

The NZ Kiwis will be supporting Kiwis for kiwi campaign on Monday, from 1.30-2.30pm, during the charity’s kiwi family day at Auckland Zoo.

“One of the things we have tried to do, as a team, is establish a culture that helps us understand what we stand for and who we represent,” says Kiwis half Kieran Foran.

“That includes the bird that lends us its name – we have an strong affinity with the kiwi and if we can help others get behind this cause, we’re happy to do it.”

For those staying in Auckland over Labour Weekend, Monday provides an opportunity to meet the national rugby league team, while learning about our national icon.

Between 12-3pm, there will be face painting, a larger-than-life kiwi or two, a message board of love for our kiwi bird, and some fun games and activities.

This event marks the end of Save Kiwi Month 2014, during which Kiwis for kiwi have been working to raise awareness and funds to protect our national icon from extinction.

“Knowing the NZ Kiwis are supporting our efforts to save the kiwi makes me positive that we can get the rest of New Zealand behind us to achieve our goal of reversing the decline of kiwi by 2018,” says Kiwis for kiwi executive director Michelle Impey.
