Jordan Reyne’s Halloween treat for you
Jordan Reyne’s Halloween treat for you
Jordan Reyne is releasing her new EP ‘Mother’ today - Friday October 31st, in time for All Hallows’ Eve.
‘Mother’ is the second EP in Jordan Reyne’s Maiden, (Mother), Crone trilogy, which combines pagan imagery with narratives about the experience of women today. The ‘Crone’ EP was released in May this year and centres on an older woman – her social invisibility also gives her the ability to say what she thinks without being judged.
‘Mother’ explores the juggling act performed by many contemporary Mums – society’s expectations of motherhood are balanced against what a mother wants from her own life, given our society’s encouragement of self-fulfilment. Of the trilogy, the Mother is most likely to being judged.
Reyne’s first single from ‘Mother’ is 'The Ferryman' – and the astounding video for this song was painstakingly crafted by Jordan herself. ‘The Ferryman’ is the tale of a man who refuses to pay the price for his choices, by attempting to avoid making any. Sadly, not choosing often turns out to be a choice of its own. The shadow puppet video was made over about 90 hours, on an almost zero budget, but with a lot of sellotape. Watch the Ferryman here.
More information on the background and mythology behind the trilogy is available on Jordan's blog here.
Reyne is currently touring Europe to celebrate the release of ‘Mother’, currently playing in Germany, with UK shows to come. She has just performed at the annual Soundedit festival in Poland, in a lineup which included Laibach, Karl Bartos (formerly of Kraftwerk), Lech Janerka, Patrick Wolf and John Cale.
Listen to Jordan Reyne Maiden, [Mother], Crone here.
She has also put together a special Halloween playlist; including her own unique take on INXS’ ‘The Devil Inside’.

Dlaczego Nie Gra (Poland) -
Reviewed at Club Lykend, Wroclaw.
“Two
encores and a standing ovation - she's that good. Jordan is
one woman on stage who manages to sound like an entire band,
and a great one at that. Jordan mixes the modern with the
traditional in a way that is both modest and
charming.”

of 'Crone'
"This is a profoundly good collection
of songs. A quintet bound together by layer upon layer of
Jordan Reyne’s incredible voice, charting a progression
from the sweet to the sinister. Strong, confident songs,
strong and confident lyrics, encompassing extremes of light
and dark."

"Once
again I have to point out the musical uniqueness and
creativity JORDAN REYNE reveals with every
new output, her way to evolve and grow, her ability to
reflect so sharp-tongued on woman’s life, politics and
society of these days. I am much looking forward to the
other two EPs."
