Kiwis Want Wifi & Modern Luxury Over the Quintessential Bach

Kiwis Want Wifi & Modern Luxury Over the Quintessential Kiwi Bach
But the BBQ is Here to Stay

A national survey by Bachcare, New Zealand’s only full-service holiday home rental and management company has found that the preference for the classic quintessential “Kiwi bach” has been surpassed in favour of the “modern and luxury holiday home” with all the creature comforts.
Most “classic Kiwi bach lovers” were from Northland and Waikato at 48% compared to South Islanders who prefer a more luxurious holiday haven to retreat to.
The results of the annual survey to understand trends in the holiday home industry have made it clear that access to wifi is of prime importance, particularly with Gen Y’s and ‘being connected’ does have an influence on their decision to choose a particular holiday home.

Men rate “space and comfort”’ as the primary reason for staying in a holiday home whereas women believe “value for money” is most important. Other deciding factors that influence a preference for holiday homes compared to other accommodation choices include “location” and “self-catering”.

“Our results have highlighted a noticeable societal trend of consumers expecting ‘instant access and instant answers’ when booking and this has become a deal-breaker. We can see that real time online booking availability is a ‘mandatory must-do’ standard in our industry as 95% of Kiwis want it.
81% of Kiwis, especially Babyboomers, have told us that they prefer holiday homes to be pre-serviced, cleaned and checked prior to their arrival. I’m proud to say that Bachcare deliver on this standard with our local Holiday Managers dotted around the country, meeting and greeting guests day in and day out,” said Leslie Preston, founder and General Manager of Bachcare
Some traditions never die though and “having a Kiwi BBQ” was voted in overwhelming majority by many Aucklanders’ as their most popular activity along with “relaxing with friends and family”, “going to the beach”, “swimming” and “enjoying local tourism activities”.
