All Ready for
epay Silver Fern Rally
All is ready! The
epay Silver Fern Rally is about to get underway and another
epic is in store.
Starting in Picton at 12.30pm on Saturday afternoon there are fifty-seven cars in the event including eighteen international entrants and in eight days of high speed Special Stage competition the cars will travel through Marlborough, Nelson, the West Coast, Canterbury, South Canterbury, Otago, Southland and Central Otago before finishing in Queenstown on Saturday 15 November. Marlborough residents can also enjoy a rally show in High Street, Picton from 10.30am on Saturday before the event gets underway.
There are three sections to the event – the Historic Trophy for 2-wheel-drive cars, the New Zealand Silver Fern Challenge which caters for more modern 2-wheel-drive cars and the Silver Frond which takes place over the last three days of the event only.
Top New Zealand drivers Jeff Judd and Brian Stokes of Canterbury and Shane Murland of Paraparaumu will take on a strong international contingent including Vince Bristow and Simon Tysoe of the UK, David Hills and Keith Callinan of Australia, Frank Cunningham of Ireland and Iain Freestone of Kenya in the Historic Trophy.
In the Challenge, kiwis such as Dave Strong and Charlie Evans will be looking to uphold local honour against UK driver Jake Scannell and Australian Ed Mulligan.
Canterbury drivers Deane Buist and Gary Cliff lead the shorter, three day Silver Frond field which will join the event in Dunedin next Thursday.
The rally will cover 1150 kilometres of competitive Special Stages over eight days.
Full details of the rally route are available on the event website – www.silverfernrally.co.nz
The rally enjoys support from epay, Malcove, HiFX, Pure Commerce, Kiwimaps, Christchurch City Council and Brita Safety.
