Charitable Kiwis needed to help fly A380s across the Tasman

Charitable Kiwis needed to help fly three A380s across the Tasman

An exciting new campaign from Emirates will see three deserving New Zealand not-for-profit organisations on the move with the help of Kiwis everywhere.

In a first of its kind digital activation for the airline, Emirates is working this month with Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand, Variety - The Children’s Charity and Women’s Refuge, and is asking Kiwis to get involved and help take them to Australia.

Through social media interaction, the charities will virtually race across the Tasman on three A380 aircraft and it is up to New Zealanders to get their favourite cause to touch down in one of the airline’s three Australian destinations first.

Emirates New Zealand Regional Manager Chris Lethbridge says the plane push campaign is a great way to show the airline’s commitment to New Zealand.

“It is fantastic to work with three New Zealand not-for-profit organisations whose great work has a lasting effect on thousands of Kiwis.

“All three causes do exceptional work and we are grateful that we can do our bit to support deserving New Zealanders through them,” says Mr Lethbridge.

Emirates flies three A380 aircraft daily from Auckland to Australia landing in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, and each charity has been given a port as their goal destination. The planes will be pushed by public votes via social media to reach their destination.

The winning cause will receive 10 return economy flights to their choice of one of three Emirates destinations in Australia - Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane – and the two runners-up will each receive two return economy flights to Australia.

Voters also go into the draw to win two return economy flights to one of the three Australian destinations.

“It’s been a year since we upgraded to triple-daily A380 flights from Auckland to Australia so the plane push campaign is a great way to celebrate that first anniversary,” says Mr Lethbridge.

Pru Etcheverry CEO of Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand, a not-for-profit organisation supporting patients and their families living with blood cancers and related blood conditions, is thankful for the chance to be involved in the first Emirates campaign of its kind.

“Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand doesn’t receive government funding and is instead supported by generous donations from the New Zealand public. We are very thankful for the opportunity to be involved in the Emirates campaign.”

Variety - The Children’s Charity is the second charity involved. Their focus is helping New Zealand’s sick, disabled and disadvantaged children reach their full potential. Every year Variety helps to create brighter futures for over 10,000 deprived Kiwi kids.

“We are very grateful to have the opportunity to work with the airline and to reach out to more New Zealanders who want to make a difference for our Kiwi kids in need.” says Variety CEO Lorraine Taylor.

Women’s Refugee is the final not-for-profit organisation. It works to help women and children leaving violent relationships and prevent domestic violence by educating the public about it. More than 20,000 women and children use the service every year says Chief Executive Heather Henare.

“We receive a call on our crisis line every seven minutes. We are grateful to be a part of a campaign that will help boost our profile in New Zealand and will benefit our charity because there are many reasons why having free travel in to Australia is valuable to us.”

The campaign will run online from November 10th to November 30th.
