Get a real piece of the Hobbiton Movie Set
New Zealand Post is giving fans everywhere the opportunity to own a real piece of Middle-earth with the The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies stamp and coin collection.
In a world first, a piece of the Hobbiton Movie Set has been incorporated into a stamp and coin issued by New Zealand Post as movie-goers all over the world gear up for the final cinematic journey to Middle-earth when The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies releases in December.
The stamp and coin feature the iconic door to Bag End in the Shire, home of the Hobbits Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit Trilogy, and Frodo Baggins in The Lord of the RingsTrilogy.
Incorporated into the door part of the images are particles of wood from the ‘party tree’ on the Hobbiton Movie Set, which appeared in both The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit motion picture trilogies.
New Zealand Post has issued these official stamps and legal tender commemorative coins from Middle-earth to celebrate the final movie in Sir Peter Jackson’s epic trilogy of films The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, a production of New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios (MGM).
Well known characters Bilbo, Gandalf the Grey and Bard the Bowman; Elves Tauriel and Thranduil; villains Azog the Defiler and his army of Orcs; and the fire-breathing Dragon Smaug also feature on the official stamps and coins.
New Zealand Post’s Head of Stamps and Coins, Simon Allison, said New Zealand Post has had a long association with Sir Peter Jackson and Warner Bros. since issuing the first special collectors' edition stamps and coins in 2001.
“After 13 years and six movies, the tales of Middle-earth are about to come to a close with The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Fans everywhere have the opportunity to get a real piece of Middle-earth with this collection.”
A trip for two to Middle-earth or a 1oz gold proof coin is also up for grabs
When either the ‘presentation pack’ or ‘Smaug brilliant uncirculated coin’ is purchased, customers go into the prize draw to win a trip for two to the Hobbiton Movie Set and a picnic under the ‘party tree’, or a 1oz gold proof coin featuring Bilbo Baggins and Smaug.
