Stella Artois Announces Winner of 2014 NZ Draught Masters

Stella Artois Announces Winner of 2014 NZ Draught Masters

Lori Wallace, from De Fontein Belgian Beer Café in Mission Bay Auckland, has claimed victory and has been crowned the official Stella Artois Draught Master for New Zealand.

Held at Blankenberge Belgian Beer Cafe in Auckland, the prestigious competition saw 20 Stella Artois connoisseurs from all over New Zealand go head to head in a national competition.

Each contestant was judged on their passion, enthusiasm and skills on the 9 Step Pour, a mastered ritual that requires practice and precision to perform. When carried out properly, discerning fans can enjoy a glass of Stella Artois that’s served in its perfect form.

As the new winner, Lori will go on to represent New Zealand at the Stella Artois World Draught Masters, held in Wimbledon, England, during the 2015 Wimbledon Tennis Championships.

Lori says: “To take out this title and know that I’m going on to represent New Zealand at the Stella Artois World Draught Masters in the UK is amazing! I couldn’t be more ecstatic!”

“In the past we’ve had really good success, so I’m hoping I can continue that legacy that and bring back the title for New Zealand.”

Laura Smith, Quality Manager from Lion says: “Just like in previous years it was incredibly tight to judge, with hardly anything between first and second. The level of talent that we’ve seen not only tonight, but throughout the entire competition has been fantastic, and Lori can be really proud to take out the title.

“As a judge, we were looking for the highest degree of quality, excellence and execution and that little bit of something extra. Lori had that, and has done an exceptional job throughout the competition and thoroughly deserved to win.”

Hayden Harvey, Senior Brand Manager at Stella Artois, says: “The Stella Artois Draught Masters is a celebration of not only pouring perfection, but also the experience that you get when ordering and enjoying a Stella Artois. This competition serves to provide our discerning fans a superior beer experience from tap to table.”

“If successful in England, Lori could have an amazing opportunity ahead of her, going on to become an international brand ambassador for Stella Artois around the world.”

“Stella Artois has an amazing history that stretches back over 600 years and it’s important to protect the traditions associated with it, so beer drinkers around the world can enjoy an exceptional experience like no other.”

About Stella Artois®
Stella Artois traces its origin back to 1366 to the Den Hoorn brewery in Leuven, Belgium just outside of Brussels. The beer was originally brewed to celebrate Christmas, and it was named Stella (Latin for “star”) for its exceptional clarity. Stella Artois has a pleasantly bitter flavor and refreshing finish that distinguishes it from other European lagers. Stella Artois should only be served in its signature chalice, which showcases its rich, golden color while releasing the beer's flavor and aroma.
