Mighty Ape Teams Up With Wellington Firebirds

Cricket Wellington and Mighty Ape are pleased to announce a new commercial partnership.

Mighty Ape, NZ’s number one online retailer, has joined with Cricket Wellington as the naming rights partner for the Wellington Firebirds, for the remainder of the Georgie Pie Super Smash Twenty20 competition. The team will be officially named as the Mighty Ape Wellington Firebirds, and will have uniform logos as part of the deal.

Commenting on the partnership Cricket Wellington Chief Executive Peter Clinton said “We’re delighted that such a high-quality partner as Mighty Ape is supporting the Firebirds, and is involved with the new-look Georgie Pie Super Smash competition. There’s a lot of excitement around the Wellington team this season, and in cricket more generally with the World Cup being co-hosted in NZ later in the summer. It’s great to have new partners joining the cricket family.”

Simon Barton, Chief Gorilla for Mighty Ape added “It was great working with Grant Elliot last year, and we’re excited to go into bat for the entire team in 2014.”

“Mighty Ape is based in Auckland, but we’re a nationwide service with 25% of our customers from the Wellington region. Our family is passionate about cricket - and we’re thrilled to support the team. Go the mighty Firebirds!”

This announcement coincides with the festival of Georgie Pie Super Smash T20 cricket at Westpac Stadium over this weekend, which will see the Mighty Ape Wellington Firebirds play on Friday evening, and on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
