Christmas Comes Early for Drummer Boys and Girls
Early Christmas presents have arrived for the Celtic Pipe Band of Stoke, thanks to the generosity of Pub Charity.
After years of playing on old drums the Celtic Pipe Band has just unwrapped 10 new snare drums.
The band began with drums that were about 20 years old, then upgraded five years ago, purchasing a full set of second hand drums from a Grade One band. Finally, with the support of a 16-thousand dollar Pub Charity grant, the band is now the proud owner of 10 shiny new Andante Snare Drums.
Celtic Band Pipe Drum Major Bryce Gilchrist says the new drums are incredible!
“The first time the drummers played on these beauties, the whole drum corps sounded clearer, with improved precision.”
“Having new drums means the drum corps is now able to compete on a level playing field with other corps at competitions. The other benefit of the new drums is they are so much lighter, built of the latest state or the art materials, making them perfect for the band’s younger members,” Bryce said.
And the arrival of the new drums couldn’t have come at a better time.
Bryce says, “The Band has just expanded and we now also have a fully-fledged Development Band, which means both groups will have their own drums to use, instead of having to share.”
The Celtic Pipe Band showed off its new shiny black snare drums at the Motueka Starlight Parade last Friday and Richmond’s Santa Parade on Saturday and they’ll be on the streets again this weekend in the Nelson Santa Parade.
