Randell included as Mondiale Aces return to Plunket Shield

Young 19 year old pace bowler Brett Randell has been named in the Mondiale Auckland Aces Plunket Shield squad to play the Wellington Firebirds at the Basin Reserve starting tomorrow.

Randell is a former New Zealand Under 19 representative and has been in excellent form for his club side Eden Roskill in the Premier competition.

The two other players to come into the 12 are opener Jeet Raval and bowler Dean Bartlett.

The game provides an instant rematch of the two sides clash in the Georgie Pie Super Smash final on Sunday. The format however is very different and coach Matt Horne says that the result is something the team has already put behind them.

“It’s ended up being a quirk of the schedule that we face them straight away but it also makes no difference, they’re just the team we happen to be playing.”

Horne is more focused on getting his players in the right head space for their return to four day cricket.

“All of these guys have done this transition plenty of times but with the quick turnaround it’s mainly about making sure we’ve made the mental adjustments to our game that are really important for the longer format.”

A team for the game that starts at 10.30am tomorrow at the Basin Reserve, will be named from the following 12 players:

Rob Nicol (Captain)
Dean Bartlett
Michael Bates
Brad Cachopa
Carl Cachopa
Craig Cachopa
Donovan Grobbelaar
Colin Munro
Tarun Nethula
Matt Quinn
Brett Randell
Jeet Raval
