Brendon McCullum’s ‘Keys to the Capital’ time changed to lunch break

The presentation of the ‘Keys to the City’ to New Zealand Cricket Captain Brendon McCullum is expected to now take place during the lunch break today, around 1.25pms ubject to weather.

The presentation will take place adjacent to the Vance Stand near or on the field, subject to conditions.

The awarding of the ‘Keys to the City’ of Wellington recognise Brendon McCullum’s historic achievement to be the first New Zealander to reach 300 in a test innings.

Mayor Celia Wade-Brown will present the Black Caps Captain with the key, specially produced to mark the occasion, in a short ceremony during the lunch break on the first day of the Sri Lanka cricket test match, 3 January at the Basin Reserve.

Previous recipients of the Keys to the City were Sir Peter Jackson and Sir Richard Taylor, for their unique contributions to the city.

The ceremonial key was especially produced by local manufacturers Te Mahi Limited, incorporating innovative digital printing technology and English willow, with a sustainably-sourced rimu base.
