(Scotland)

Thursday 19 March, 2015

Auckland Arts Festival 2015 is excited to announce the addition of Scottish Folk Band of the Year, Breabach to this year’s programme.

With their fiery brand of highland pipes, Gaelic voices, stepdance and epic bagpipe and violin duels, the five-piece Scottish group Breabach has fans all around the globe, including right here in Aotearoa, where they hit the Top 40 album charts last year with Urlar.

This special Festival concert unites band members Calum MacCrimmon (pipes/whistles/ bouzouki), Ewan Robertson (guitar/vocals), James Mackenzie (pipes/flute/whistles), Megan Henderson (fiddle/ vocals/stepdance) and James Lindsay (double bass), with the award-winning Celtic piping duo of Ross Ainslie and Jarlath Henderson (Scottish bagpipes/Irish uilleann pipes/whistles).

Breabach is part of an exciting line-up of international and NZ bands and musicians performing in the Paradiso Spieglent during Auckland Arts Festival 2015, including Neneh Cherry, Lake Street Dive, DePedro, Phox, Ladi6, Hollie Smith, Che Fu and Warren Maxwell.

The group also rounds out the Festival’s international music programme which includes Irish ‘supergroup’ The Gloaming, and southern India’s The Kitchen.
