Award-Winning BIRDMAN Flies Into Cinemas

Golden Globe-winning movie BIRDMAN opens in New Zealand cinemas tomorrow.

Lead actor Michael Keaton won best actor and the film won best screenplay at the Golden Globes presented yesterday.

In BIRDMAN, Alejandro G.. Iñárritu’s black comedy, Riggan Thomson (Michael Keaton) hopes that by spearheading an ambitious new Broadway play he will, among other things, revive his moribund career. In many ways, it is a deeply foolhardy move – but the former cinema superhero has high hopes that this creative gambit will legitimize him as an artist and prove to everyone – and himself – that he is not just a Hollywood has-been.

Riggan has to navigate his relationship with his fresh out of rehab daughter (Emma Stone), his best friend/producer (Zach Galifianakis) and a difficult method actor (Edward Norton). Riggan desperately wants to prove his relevance and build on his past Superhero fame. Throughout the film his ego gets the better of him and mocks his attempts at establishing himself in the theatre world.

In its international release BIRDMAN is inspiring rave reviews from critics world wide.

“Michael Keaton soars in this savagely funny, strangely sweet, sad and utterly brilliant New York-set comedy.” – Time Out

“BIRDMAN isn’t much like anything else at all. Think Black Swan directed by Mel Brooks and you’re in the vicinity, but only just.” – Daily Telegraph

“With it’s tongue firmly in its cheek, BIRDMAN shows there are plenty of tricks left in the game of exciting film making”. – Sunday Star Times
