Givealittle reaches $20 million milestone

Media Release

Givealittle reaches $20 million milestone

Users of Givealittle.co.nz have pushed the crowdfunding platform past another growth milestone, with the all-time total now surpassing $20 million.

Givealittle.co.nz celebrated its first $10 million milestone in May last year, approximately five and a half years after it launched at the end of 2008.

The next $10 million of donations was tallied in a mere eight months, reflecting a dramatic growth curve.

Lynne Le Gros, General Manager of the Spark Foundation, says that Givealittle’s growth is evidence of New Zealanders increased willingness to raise funds and make donations online.

“While the donation totals are increasing month by month, we are also seeing high growth in new pages being created, which is our strongest indicator of a surge in the general awareness of Givealittle” she says.

5,406 different pages benefitted from funds raised on Givealittle.co.nz in 2014, compared to 2,238 in 2013 and 839 the year before.

Also released today are Givealittle’s annual results for 2014. The homepage features a link to an online Year in Review video, providing viewers with a snapshot of the platform’s key statistics and interesting facts from the year.

“New Zealanders are behind the growth that made 2014 such a significant year for Givealittle. The Year in Review release is our way of helping donors and fundraisers celebrate their collective generosity and the amazing stories that steamed from this,” Ms Le Gros says.

Real-time platform statistics such as the daily donation total and all-time donation count were not public up until the major website upgrade that was released in December.

Taking cues from the telethon effect observed on Givealittle pages, the public are now able to see live total giving and as a result the Spark Foundation reports an increase in returning traffic to the homepage.

Largest pages from 2014:

• Help Lucy and Family $269,934.00

• Brad Smeele’s Recovery $216,190.22

• Bone Marrow for Life $203,346.82
