Auckland City Lights Up for Pride
At 9pm this Saturday the 7th of February the Auckland War Memorial Museum lights up with all the colours of the rainbow, to acknowledge the 2015 Auckland Pride Festival (7 Feb – 1 March).
Making a striking visual on Auckland’s skyline, Auckland Museum joins the party that is Auckland Pride Festival lighting up on both Saturday the 7th and Sunday the 8th of March.
The weekend is jam packed with activities to mark the opening weekend. First up The Mika Haka Foundation launches proceedings with a spiritual Māori Dawn Ceremony at Okahu Bay beach as part of The Aroha Project.
On Saturday the 7th of February at 8pm, the black tie event that offers a sneak peek of the fantastic acts in this year’s programme rolls out the red carpet at Auckland’s Q Theatre for the Auckland Pride Gala. Saturday also offers audiences a strong visual arts programme with exhibitions at Artspace, Studio One and the Michael Lett Gallery. Thirty – A Moving Image Exhibition showcasing a range of historical and contemporary moving images, presented alongside panels from the NZ AIDS memorial Quilt plays at Nga Toanga, K’Rd and the Maidment Theatre opens its doors for the screenings of two gay films - Tru Love and The Way He Looks.
Closing the weekend on Sunday February the 8th is the large scale outdoor event that draws families, celebs and ministers out to play for the LYC Big Gay Out at Point Chevalier’s Coyle Park. Kicking off at midday and running through until 7pm, this event offers a fun filled afternoon of entertainment and community celebrations.
And this is just the beginning! The 3rd annual Auckland Pride Festival runs through until March 1offering up an outstanding programme of art, theatre, comedy, music, dance, literature and the best parties.
