Capital E National Theatre for Children
presents
AN AWFULLY BIG
ADVENTURE
Directed and devised by Leo Gene
Peters
Following a successful 2014 national tour and 2015 Wellington return season, award-winning national theatre company Capital E bring their acclaimed production of An Awfully Big Adventure to Q Theatre from March 25 to March 28.
“An
Awfully Big Adventure is a magnificently rumbustious,
inventive and often hilarious production for 8-year-olds and
above about, of all things, World War
1”.
Laurie Atkinson, The Dominion
Post
Through inventive play, An Awfully Big Adventure takes audiences on a journey to World War One where a story emerges of two young men; one a keen enlister convinced he is on his big OE, the other a conscientious objector. As road cases transform to trenches, and a dusty collection of coats becomes a map of Europe, their stories collide on Flanders fields.
Through energetic songs and moments of Pythonesque vaudeville, this high energy ensemble, Adam Brown, Andrew Paterson and Brynley Stent, beautifully shares the unforgettable stories revealing the truth about what really happened out there.
“…moving and poignant, but hilarious
as well. I learned more about WW1 in that hour than I ever
did at school or university! It really was outstanding –
so impressed.”

An Awfully Big
Adventure was originally created to mark the
hundred year anniversary since the outbreak of World War
One. It is a work that explores the complexity of the times,
the conduct of the war, the heroes, and the impact it had on
New Zealanders.
Capital E’s Director, Stuart Grant
says, “We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to
bring this production to Auckland’s Q Theatre. The work
embarks on a journey to explore the truth behind a different
time and place and is accessible to people of all ages. This
will be a show not to miss!”
