Dirt & Other Delicious Ingredients sweep the stage
Dirt & Other Delicious Ingredients sweep the stage with their feet
Java Dance Company presents an original and delicious performance
“Everything
that we consume and create comes from ingredients found in
the earth. We may transform the shape, form, colour and
chemistry of what we find, but everything begins in the
dirt.”
New Zealand’s Java Dance Company presents the world premiere of their latest choreographed performance work, Dirt & Other Delicious Ingredients as part of the Capital E National Arts Festival 2015. On Saturday 14 March at 11.30am in Shed 6, three dancers and two musicians will create musical instruments from twigs, works of art from berries and everything under the sun from herbs and spices.
Java creates a world from delicious chocolate laced earth. They begin with cultivation, and find the world in the soil, from natural paint pigments to create works of art and clay to make armour. There’s art hidden in every crevice with enchanted markets, wild feasts and spice wars.
Festival Producer Melanie Hamilton says, “Java Dance Company creates new and exciting works that encourage children to let their imaginations run wild. Dirt & Other Delicious Ingredients is a magical performance experience that Capital E is thrilled to have as part of the 2015 National Arts Festival.”
Artistic Director Sasha Copland says, “I love creating physical tactile worlds for the audience and dancers to play in. It’s a squishy scented 3D experience, dissolving the distance between the dancers and the audience as we play in the magic together.”
Java Dance Company leads an absurdist reality curve ideal for children aged 3 – 8 years old. For further details on the full National Arts Festival programme, visit the Capital E website at http://capitale.org.nz/portfolio-posts/national-arts-festival-dirt-other-delicious-ingredients/
