Iamishwara Catches Group 1 Glory
Iamishwara Catches Group 1
Glory
Achieving victory
at Group 1 status on Saturday was
Iamishwara (NZ)
(Keeninsky) in the $200,000 Group 1 Haunui Farm Group One
WFA Classic (1600m) at Otaki.
Iamishwara has won 11 races out of his 55 starts with a further 14 places with trainer Antony Kaye. Prior to Saturday’s race, the Kenninsky gelding had won one race at stakes level and placed in two other stakes races, finishing second just a week earlier in the Group 3 Hooker Pacific Taranaki Cup.
“It was a fantastic run,” commented Kaye. “I’ve always had a lot of faith in him and he has always shown me plenty of ability that he could do that. He has had a lot of doubters in the past and it just panned out in his favour with the way the race was run with a slow tempo early on.
“Robbie (Hannam) rode him fantastic, by choosing to come through on the inside and saving all that ground it helped him to win the race.

Serena Miss Sweeps Up Stakes
Success
Two-year-old
Serena Miss (NZ) (Iffraaj)
recorded her first stakes victory in the Group 2 $100,000 J
Swap Contractors Matamata Breeders’ Stakes (1200m) at
Matamata Racecourse on Saturday.
Trained by Graeme and
Debbie Rogerson, Serena Miss is enjoying a stellar season,
with this her second win from just four starts. Her two
other runs have seen her finish second both times, including
her last start in the Group 2 Wakefield Challenge Stakes in
December.
“It was a big run but I think she’s going to be a very good filly and a great three-year-old,” commented co-trainer Graeme Rogerson. “She’s been unlucky and probably should have won every start, however, she’s still learning and got there today and that’s all that counts.
“She will go to Auckland for the Group 1 (Haunui Farm Diamond Stakes) now and then we might take her to Sydney after that but I’ll just see.”

Rocanto Rallies Towards Diamond
Stakes
The great run of
first season sire Per Incanto continued on Saturday with the
promisingRocanto (NZ) (Per
Incanto) achieving victory in the $50,000 Listed Reid &
Harrison (1980) Limited Slipper (1200m) at Matamata.
Little Avondale Stud stallion Per Incanto has already
sired six winners from his first crop to race with Rocanto
becoming his first stakes winner. Per Incanto came close to
siring his second stakes winner later in the day at Matamata
with Nahema(NZ) finishing a close second in
the Group 2 Matamata Breeders’ Stakes.
This was Rocanto’s third win from his four starts for trainer Stephen Marsh, and first at stakes level. Winning on debut over 1100m in December, the two-year-old colt’s two previous wins both came at Te Rapa.
“It was great to see him win,” commented Marsh. “His first big assignment was obviously the Eclipse where he was unplaced but we felt he had his reasons for that."
