Silent auction: A drawing made for Wellington, by Wellington

For Immediate Release

24 February 2015

A drawing made for Wellington, by Wellington!

UK artist, Kirsten Lavers, used pens and pencils swapped, borrowed, found or given to her in Wellington, to draw a large-scale illustration of ever-smaller perfect circles. Lavers, who received hundreds of pens and pencils from locals and visitors to the capital, spent a mighty 57 hours over the five days of The Performance Arcade creating the work titled Admitting the Possibilities of Error in Wellington.

Participants were invited to share their experiences and feelings about making mistakes, going wrong, failure and error. The outcome of this meditative and mesmerising drawing performance tells a story of mistakes and interactions with the city.

Lavers kindly donated the work to The Performance Arcade, the free Live Art festival that hosted her, and has given art lovers the opportunity to own the uniquely Wellington work through a silent auction.

The silent auction closes at 5.00pm Friday 27 February 2015 at which time the work is sold to the highest bidder. All proceeds of the auction will go to supporting The Performance Arcade, which provides a platform for emerging artists to showcase innovative Live Art.

For further information, go to www.theperformancearcade.com or to arrange a viewing of the work, please email assistantproducer@theperformancearcade.com.
