CBD retailers looking forward to hosting artist’s works
CBD retailers looking forward to hosting artist’s works
After a one year hiatus the Mainstreet
Exhibition is returning as part of the newly amalgamated
Artists Open Studios and Whanganui Glass Festival events.
The
exhibition will be opened on Friday 20 March at
4.30pm and Artists Open Studios Facilitator Sarah Williams
has been busy arranging entertainers to give the opening a
festive atmosphere.
“The relationships between retailer and artist in some instances have been long standing and business owners in the CBD are thrilled to see the exhibition return,” says Mainstreet marketing manager Elise Goodge. Thirty three businesses in total will be hosting artists in their windows and this year there will be a mixture of mediums with the return of many glass artists and the addition of potters, object artists and painters.
To complement the exhibition and the Artists Open Studios weekends Mainstreet Wanganui is also organising a Twilight Market for Friday 27 March, the second Friday of the weekends. It will be another great opportunity to view the Mainstreet Exhibition and also do some late night shopping with stalls from local crafts people and retailers showcasing locally made and artisan wares. The Twilight Market will run from 5pm-9pm.
Artists Open Studios Event Facilitator expresses how excited the Trust is to offer an Open Studios Event that is so multifaceted. “It’s been so great to include additional events that engage regular participants in new ways and push the framework of the event in an invigorated and fresh way. We’ve enjoyed also involving other creative sectors to create an event that all in the community can take part in which will in turn be a real draw card for tourists to our beautiful city; which all helps in our establishment of Whanganui as an Arts Destinaton.”
