Ben Hurley & Guests: Ben Defend New Zealand

Ben Hurley & Guests: Ben Defend New Zealand

Imagine, if you will, a hilarious debate between a team of the best international comics with a local traitor on one side, and just Ben Hurley on the other. Well then, come along to this show and you will imagine no more as Ben Hurley argues New Zealand’s case for being better than wherever the heck it is that his opponents come from.

This isn’t a stand-up show, this is a late night comedy bear pit with comedians desperately trying to save face for themselves and their country. Ben Defend New Zealand is sure to be the late night hit of the Festival, and with different opponents taking Ben on each night, you’ll have to come more than once.

Running every Wednesday through to Saturday during the Festival at 10pm, this is where the gloves come off, battle lines are drawn and the hilarity ensues. It’s the perfect environment for getting the best out of comics who will use their quick wits, acerbic put downs and natural comic timing to create a unique show each night.

Ben has been performing comedy in New Zealand and around the world since the 90s. He has won both the Fred Award and the Billy T Award, along with the NZCG Best MC and Best Male Comedian. He has featured on Comedy Galas, AotearoHAs, has had his own half-hour special After Hours with Ben Hurley and also hosted the most recent season of After Hours. With fellow comic Steve Wrigley he created Ben & Steve World Famous in…, and is of course widely recognised as a regular panelist and head-writer on TV3s hugely popular Friday night show, 7Days.

Rather than role out another brilliant hour of stand-up, Ben has chosen this special format to his show for the challenge and the thrill of creating something different.

“We’ve got some great comics lined up already. They’re really keen to play with this format, it gets you out of doing the same jokes all the time. I’m looking forward to messing around with some of my favourite comics for this show” – Ben Hurley

This show is the perfect closer for an evening of entertainment, a topper after a show earlier in the night for those who just can’t get enough. Line-ups will be posted atncomedy.com, you can follow Ben on Twitter @benhurleycom for regular updates also.
