16 March 2015
Prize-winning French author David Fauquemberg is currently on a tour of New Zealand, meeting with French students, francophiles and the greater public as part of his six month residency at the Randell Cottage.
Since March 12th, David has been participating in a series of conferences and literary talks at art galleries, universities and several Alliance Françaiseinstitutions across both the North and South Islands. He is discussing his path to becoming a writer as well the adventurous experiences he has encountered in the name of research for his novels. The events provide an opportunity for attendees to pose David questions about his works and career.
Following successful talks in Dunedin and Christchurch, a highlight of the tour will be David’s participation in the “French Language Weekend” at Auckland Art Gallery. David will present a free talk alongside journalist, editor, publisher and broadcaster Finlay MacDonald about Travel Literature and Creative Writing. To end his national tour, David will hold presentations in Palmerston North and Wellington, with details soon to be released.
David was selected as the 2015 French writer-in-Residence of the Randell Cottage, a writer’s residency situated in Thorndon, Wellington which has alternately welcomed New Zealand and French writers since 2001. From the Cotentin area of Normandy, David often travels abroad to search for inspiration for his works. His first novel, Nullarbor, was the result of a two year visit to Australia, whilst his 2013 novel Manuel el Négro, was written after four years of immersion in Andalucía, Spain.
