Lightbox announces new content and new price point

Online TV service Lightbox today announced it will add a tranche of brand new TV shows in the coming months and is moving its pricing to $12.99 per 30 days, down from $15. The price change takes effect from tomorrow (Tuesday March 24) and applies to existing and new customers.

Lightbox CEO Kym Niblock says the announcement reflects the TV service’s intention to be at the forefront of its category. “It’s always been our strategy to be competitive in this developing market by offering New Zealanders lots more choice. Being able to stream the TV shows you love, from the beginning and ad-free, is the way of the future. Our customers are pretty vocal about the joys of being able to kick back with decent TV whenever they like. Today’s news adds even more value to Lightbox.”

New shows set to arrive from next month include:

         the BBC’s acclaimed new political drama Wolf Hall;

         lavish Christina Ricci crime drama The Lizzie Borden Chronicles;

         WWII spy thriller X Company and

         Powers, a police procedural with superheroes, created by the PlayStation Network - all exclusive to Lightbox.

In addition, Lightbox is increasing its stable of local shows with the addition of the Taika Waititi-directed New Zealand comedy Super City starring Madeleine Sami.

“Our line-up of shows has expanded every month since we launched last year,” says Niblock. “We’ve been express-delivering shows within hours of their US screenings, so you can choose to watch along with the rest of the world, or wait till it suits you.

“We’ve announced a sports partnership with Coliseum to give New Zealanders a bunch of options when it comes to watching the sports they love, and we’ve rolled out on to more devices and platforms. Also, we’ve got Chromecast and several more device launches for the coming months.

“The price change, and the addition of even more exclusive shows, just makes it that much easier for New Zealanders to choose Lightbox, their home-grown option.”
