Please find the information around our Korero Mai Ki Ahau programmes this week. Just a note, one of our intended programmes for Saturday has been put on hold due to technical issues and will be broadcast at a later date.

This will be replaced by a repeat broadcast of Maori auahi kore champion Skye Kimurawho in turns pays tribute to Dame Tariana Turia who was recognised by the American Cancer Society for her efforts in the fight against tobacco companies.

So here's this weeks line-up.

Saturday 04 April: Dame Tariana Turia has been honoured by the American Cancer Society with the Luther L Terry Award for Exemplary Leadership in Tobacco control at an international conference in Abu Dhabi.

In her tireless pursuit of a Smokefree Aotearoa by 2025 Dame Tariana was instrumental in leading a number of legislation changes including increased tobacco tax excises, the banning of retail displays and lowering the amount of duty free allowance for cigarettes.

We speak with long time smokefree champion Skye Kimura about Dame Tariana’s leadership in this area

Sunday 05 April: Maori Catholics will gather this weekend in Havelock North for the Hui Aranga, the annual Easter hui. It’s The mix of sport, kapa haka, religious quizzes and choral singing is a measure of the strength of the faith among Maori. In Korero Mai Ki Ahau this week Eruera Morgan talks to Bob Newson, a former chair of Te Rūnanga o te Hāhi Katorika ki Aotearoa, about the issues facing the church today.
